Marriage

Congratulations! We all hope and pray that your decision to be married at St. Mark will be a time of many blessings for you. In order for your marriage and wedding preparations to go smoothly, we ask that you closely follow the guidelines below. Should you have any other questions or would like to schedule an appointment with a priest, please call the Rectory office at (310) 821-5058.

Guidelines:

In order for a marriage to take place at St. Mark Church, at least one of the parties must be a practicing Catholic.

One of the priests from St. Mark must be consulted at least 6 months prior to the wedding. A date cannot be set until a personal interview has been made with the priest. A copy of the planning manual will be given to the couple at this time. Weddings take place on Saturdays at 11:00am, 1:00pm or 3:00pm.

In the case of a previous marriage for one of the parties, with the former spouse still living, no date can be set until it has been determined by the Church that this party is now free to enter a valid marriage.

If Catholic, you must obtain the following documents: 1) a new certificate of Baptism [not a photocopy, and issued within the last 6 months]; 2) record of Confirmation; 3) record of First Holy Communion.

Enroll in an Engaged Encounter or Marriage Preparation class. The Encounter or the class must be attended by both parties and the completion certificate returned before the wedding rehearsal.

If you will be married by a visiting priest, his contact with the parish office should be prompt and he should be able to guarantee that all of the normal parish procedures for marriage at St. Mark have been adhered to.

The wedding coordinator will assist you with the ceremonial formalities.
